Asset discovery is a continuous security process that identifies, discovers, classifies, monitors, and manages an organization’s externally exposed digital assets—such as domains, subdomains, IP addresses, APIs, cloud services, and third-party integrations—to reduce potential entry points for attackers. ASM provides visibility into known and unknown internet-facing assets, detects misconfigurations, vulnerabilities, shadow IT, and exposed credentials, and helps security teams proactively remediate risks before they can be exploited. It is typically automated, risk-based, and ongoing, aligning security posture with the organization’s evolving digital footprint.
